Demons that lurk in the darkest corners of the world.
These demons are black as night, with eyes that glow white with hunger.

Shadow demons are strange, shadowy beings made of living darkness.
They feed on fear, despair, and negative emotions, and are often linked to nightmares and unsettling experiences. While they're usually seen as dangerous or creepy, not all shadow demons are the same.
Some are intelligent, observant, and even oddly wise. Others are more mindless, acting like drifting shadows that latch onto strong emotions such as fear or sadness.
They exist in both the mortal world and deeper shadow realms, with places like Forestreen being where most of them naturally reside. These realms are far more suited to their nature than the living world.
Shadow demons usually appear as black, melting forms. Their bodies may drip, blur, or release smoke, and they can take almost any shape they want, like Felvars, animals, or distorted hybrids. Their eyes, mouths, and tongues are white and pupilless, giving them an unnatural look. Many add extra details to their forms, like spikes along their fingers, lips, backs, or tails.
Wherever they move, they tend to leave behind trails of black smoke, ink, like stains, or melting shadow.
They often reflect a person's inner darkness. While their main instincts lean toward control, fear, and harm, they aren't always actively evil. Most of the time, shadow demons simply do whatever they feel like spying on Felvars, causing trouble, killing out of boredom, or just lingering in the shadows doing nothing at all. Sometimes they act on behalf of a master.
Other times, they're completely independent, existing only for their own amusement.
Type 1 shadow demons are the kind that can return even after their previous body has been destroyed. When this happens, they're given a new shadow body, usually by a higher or master demon.
They often keep memories from their past life. Some of these memories are harmless, but most are negative pain, fear, or trauma that tend to stay with them the longest. While they remember who they used to be, they're fully aware that they're no longer that person.
During rebirth, parts of their original soul can be damaged, lost, or even consumed by other entities. Because of this, they’re usually emotionally twisted or detached.
Type 1 demons are intelligent, manipulative, and fully aware of their actions. They can speak clearly, think logically, and plan. Many of them enjoy controlling Felvars, haunting dreams, and slowly getting inside people's heads. They tempt mortals into making bad choices, push them toward corruption, and take pleasure in collecting souls whenever they get the chance. Most Type 1 shadow demons live in Forestreen, the deep shadow realm, which they prefer over the bright, living world.
They rarely appear in the normal world unless someone catches their interest or seems worth corrupting. When they do interact with Felvars, it's usually through nightmares, hallucinations, or subtle mental influence, slipping disturbing images into dreams or thoughts so quietly that the victim believes they're losing their mind.
Type 2 shadow demons are nothing like Type 1.
They have no sense of identity and no memory of who or what they were. They exist as lost shadows, driven almost entirely by instinct.
They wander through cities, forests, abandoned buildings, and anywhere darkness gathers. While they seem to crave attention, they don't understand why. It's less a desire to interact and more a need to be noticed in any way they can manage.
Fear is the only thing they actively seek.
They're drawn to it, clinging to the scent and emotional residue it leaves behind. Unlike Type 1, they cannot truly touch or physically harm anyone. Instead, they try to make themselves seen or heard, appearing briefly at the edge of someone's vision, whispering fragments of sound, or causing short, unsettling hallucinations.
Sometimes they speak, but it isn't real speech. Their voices come out broken and repetitive, often repeating simple phrases like "Can you see me?" or "Do you hear me?" over and over. These are the only thoughts they seem capable of forming.
Type 2 shadows will occasionally manifest just long enough to startle someone before vanishing instantly back into the dark. Prolonged exposure to them can be dangerous, not because of physical harm, but because their presence disrupts the mind. Their whispers cause confusion, paranoia, and gradual mental strain, slowly wearing down a person's sanity.
They don't remember past lives. They don't plan. They don't serve a master. They simply exist, drifting from place to place, feeding on fear whenever they find it.
Traits:
Mindless, driven by instinct
No memories or sense of identity
Wander dark or abandoned areas
Communicate through broken whippers and repetition
Feed on fear and enjoy startling people
Appear and disappear suddenly
Type 3 shadow demons are the darkest and most personal of the shadows. They are born from an individual's own despair, feeding on fear, sadness, and emotional pain.
Unlike other types, they don't appear fully formed at first.
They start small and fragile, often resembling a tiny, shadowy blob that rests silently on a person's shoulder. The individual usually cannot see or feel it, but the shadow quietly feeds on every bit of sadness, fear, or trauma they carry. The more negative emotions it consumes, the larger and more powerful it becomes.
At first, Type 3 shadows whisper only faint, broken words. As they grow stronger, their speech becomes clearer, but always creepy and distorted. They echo a person's worst thoughts, past insults, or insecurities, twisting them into venomous messages.
They don't attack physically.
Instead, they influence the mind, encouraging anger, withdrawal, despair, or other harmful behaviors. They thrive on psychological suffering, eroding the victim's mental state until the despair lessens or the person's emotions change.
Once the individual's sadness or hopelessness decreases, the shadow fades away.
Traits:
Born from someone's own despair or depression
Feed on negative thoughts, fear, and sadness
Whisper personal, traumatic, or obsessive messages
Only appear when a person is deeply sad or hopeless
Disappear once the person recovers or feels better
Half-Shadow Demons are an extremely rare, accidental hybrid species. They were created through a failed or unstable resurrection attempt by a shadow demon using magic.
They exist only because of a magical mistake.
Originally, Percep was a powerless Soul Angel who fell, lost his light, and was rebuilt as a Shadow Demon by his master. His magic combined two very different sources as Soul Angel techniques, which are peaceful and soul-focused, and Shadow Demon techniques, which are destructive and soul-consuming.
This unusual mix made his resurrection ability unstable.
When Percep attempted to revive someone whose body was already destroyed, the process malfunctioned. Instead of letting the soul leave and reform into a normal Shadow Demon, the soul was retained in the body and fused with shadow energy, creating the first Half-Shadow Demon, William.
Percep can link his resurrection ability to other Half-Shadow Demons, allowing them to create more hybrids, but only through his connection. This makes the species extremely rare, limited, and reliant on this magical lineage.
Traits:
Hybrid of Shadow Demon energy and a physical soul
Retrain fragments of original soul and identity
Can pass on hybrid creation ability, but only through lineage
The soul stays trapped inside its original dead body while being infused with shadow energy.
The shadow energy isn't strong enough to turn them into a full Shadow Demon, but the soul can't leave the corpse either. This leaves them stuck between two states, not fully a Shadow Demon, but no longer their old self.
They don't truly belong to either species, existing as a strange, unstable hybrid caught between life, death, and shadow.
